I just found this oddly disturbing. My understanding is that parents usually try to keep their kids out of gangs, not the other way around. Any thoughts?

The teen mother, who is black, is a member of the Crips. Manzanares is Hispanic and belongs to the Westside Ballers gang, the woman said.
It's irresponsible parenting, to say the least. People who have such different lives are not wise to open the door to conflicts that might prove to be bigger than they are.
How did rival gang members end up married? I'm sure glad they're not my parents.
Are they married? I didn't catch that in the article.
However, this is so surreal it is funny. Arguing about the upbringing of their child and which gang "he" should be a member of.
Clearly the father has some maturity issues considering he threw a fit in the store.. He is 19, the child is 4.
I'm pretty sure I've never seen a news story quite like this.
