Eviction Notice

I walk down to check the mail tonight, and a paper fell off of my door. My apartment complex gets a lot of junk-mail on our doors all the time, but there was something different about this. It had my apartment number written on the outside and was folded up. Usually I don't really pay attention to these things, but it is a good thing that I opened this up to look. Recently, I paid the remainder of my lease in full. I paid April's rent in cash, and then my father put the remaining 3 months on his credit card. The payment went through and everything. Well, today I got an eviction notice. I am freaking out because it says that I have 3 days to move out. I know that they have no grounds to evict me. I have followed the lease to the tee. I am just worried about it even though I know that I haven't done anything to get evicted. Tomorrow morning I have to go down to my apartment office and work everything out.

On top of all of that, the company I work for just filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. It is a reorganization bankruptcy, and the store that I'm at is still open. The problem is that I was trying to transfer to a store closer to school and now that is not possible. There were a few stores that closed in the area, so now all positions that I could have transfered in for are filled by people from the closed stores. It is good for those people that they got reabsorbed into the company, but it is bad for me. I pay over 50 dollars a week in gas to go back to my home town every weekend and work, and it is getting way out of hand. With rising gas prices, I can't afford to work in another city. I also quit my second job, so now I am worrying.

Talk about an eventful weekend.

I am hoping that everything is going to get ironed out tomorrow morning. Crazy crazy crazy going on here.

Good luck AJD, and legally with a signed lease and proof of payment, don't worry even if they push for the eviction, It'll take 3 months. : )

Contact a rent mediation service. There are many free ones. Check with your local family resource center. They can't get you out in three days, get there today.

Just one of the many things I've learned being a member of the Citizen's Advisory Committee. :D

Thank you everyone who commented. I got it taken care of this morning. It was a careless mistake on the lease office's part. The receptionist saw the payment, and instead of paying attention, she assumed that it was a debt. Everything is worked out now. Thank you again for all of your comments.

Wow. I'm so sorry about the eviction notice. Are you sure that you followed are the rules and regulations to the tee? Any partying or loud noises coming from your apartment? Do you have roommates? You never know. But anyways, I totally know how you feel about the whole job thing. I'm recently working at this retail store and I'm not getting paid enough. I want to transfer, because by transferring I receive better pay, but I don't know if I can do that since it would cost more money to drive out. Also, I'm totally in a rut right now because I live thirty minutes away from campus. Traveling back and forth everyday really dwindles down my gas. I'm so upset about it, but there's not much I can do. Gas prices are at 3.38 now and they're just going to keep going up. It sucks so bad. Sadly, there's not much I can do on the whole gas issue, because I already own a gas efficient car and fill it up with regular, the only thing I can truly do is move out of my house and live by campus. As for the whole driving back and forth for you and your job, the best advice I can give you, is well, get a new job. I know that sounds kinda harsh and rude, but that's the only thing will help you out with gas efficiency thing. Sorry. Hope everything gets resolved. You should definitely keep us posted on your happenings.

I live by myself. I actually have gotten most everything sorted out, so now all I have to worry about is getting a job closer. I was actually thinking about looking for a job here for a while now.

Good luck on getting you transfer and everything worked out.

I would to strongly encourage you to go to myspace.com to look for jobs. While monster does indeed get a lot of hits from employers looking for potential employees, myspace gets even more and has a much larger variety of available positions from Dunkin' Donuts employees all the way up to Registered Nurses. Not to mention, there is much more traffic on myspace because the site has become incredibly popular among almost all generations and potential employers are now posting available positions on myspace because they know that it will reach a wider population of people. The best part is, if you already have a myspace, you don't need to register for anything! Just click jobs on your homepage and it will ask you exactly what you are looking for and lead you to it.

I must admit that you handled this very rationally. If it were me I would have made a heated phone call the same day I received the letter and blew up on the apartment office. This is somewhat random, but I always feel that because I am considered young, people are going to try to take advantage of me. It has happened before, especially when I shop online at ebay or amazon. I even get ignored sometimes in retail stores because sales associates seem to assume that I dont have any money.

Also completely off topic, but one time I went to the jewelry department of JCPenny to buy my mother a very expensive ring that I had been looking at for a while. The employees, ranging from about 30-65 stared right at me and did not offer to help me and instead proceeded to assist older customers withing the same age bracket. Finally, an 18 year old girl (I had seen her before at my school), who had just came back from a lunch break quickly noticed that I was waiting and came over to help me. Let's just say she made a pretty quick sale and probably a lot better commission than her older employees.

That must have been the worst feeling knowing you did nothing wrong, but were still getting in to some sort of problem. I really hope everything works out okay for you, especially with the apartment thing. I mean if you have no place to live how are you supposed to do anything. And hopefully you will be able to get a job closer to school. And I'm sure with summer coming close there will be more job openings for extra help or the people that live here just for school will be moving back to where they originally came from and you will be able to take their jobs. Good Luck with everything.

Sorry to hear about what has happened to you. Good thing you checked your mail though, it could of been even worse if you did not. I bet everything will go through and people will work out the problem. I have never had that happened to me but i know someone who has gone bankrupt and it is horrible. They owned a farm and now it is being taken away from them to have houses built on it. Hope all goes well for you.
